

Kingwood High School is proud that April Swenson was voted the TDEA (Texas Dance Educators' Association) 2006 - 2007 Director of the Year. She earned this title for the consistent high quality of her dance teams during her thirteen-year tenure at KHS. Fillie soloists, ensembles, officers and teams continue to earn regional and state titles, along with national championships year after year. Last year alone she lead the Fillies to two National Championship Titles; one in New York City and the other in San Antonio. During the '07/08 school year, the Fillies once again captured the National Title in Irvine, California at the prestigious Miss Dance Drill Team USA/International Pageant. Again this year '08/'09 she lead the Fillies to another National Championship in San Antonio, Texas making this April?s 10th National Title!
April is originally from Mt. Vernon, Ohio and was raised in Spring, Texas. She attended Oak Ridge high school where she served as colonel all four years. She went on to pursue her Bachelor of Science degree in Dance and Health Fitness at Stephen F. Austin State University. While attending SFA, April performed and choreographed for the dance company, as well as serving as a summer camp staff member and adjudicator for the Marching Auxiliaries of America. Before coming to Kingwood High School, April was the Dance Director for three years at Lamar Consolidated High School.
